Hey Photographers!  Ready to elevate your work?

Amazing Springfield Horse Show you MUST attend!

As a Southern Illinois horse photographer, I am often asked what shows I will be attending during the show season. One of my favorite shows to photograph is the Springfield Horse Show, Western Horse Show, held at the Springfield State Fairgrounds in July. This show is hosted by the Illinois Quarter Horse Association, and has over $60,000 in payouts! That is huge!

Who is this Springfield Horse show for?

This is a perfect show for anyone to attend and offers a variety of classes. Whether you’re looking to prep for a larger show or if you’re a Nov/Am wanting to add another show to your calendar, this show is a no brainer to attend. The Western Horse Show also offers All Breed classes. This is just another perk and is perfect for equestrians who don’t own an AQHA registered horse but still want to show.

This is a very welcoming environment. If you’re a little worried because you’re showing alone, this is a perfect show that will make you feel comfortable.

What are the benefits to this show?

Other than the $60,000 payouts, The Western Horse Show is a smooth running show that had over 300 entries its first year. If you’ve never been to the fairgrounds, it’s an amazing venue to show your horse. They have the colosseum main arena that has great footing and gorgeous lighting that is perfect for the under saddle classes, even reining classes. This venue also has a secondary indoor arena next to the colosseum. It’s close enough that you can leave from one class in one arena and get to another class in the second arena without issues.

The Springfield State Fairgrounds has a great stall set up with the main barn connected to two indoor covered warm up arenas, which is really nice for the ones in that barn on rainy days.

Just note that it is hot in July, so be sure to bring water and some mini fans. Luckily, the arenas are equipped with large fans to help with airflow.  Bringing a little something extra to keep you cool will help out a lot.

Don’t Forget about the Photo opportunities!

One thing we all love when we go to a show – is the arena photos! Some arenas are hard to photograph and can be a bit dark. The gorgeous lighting at this arena and pretty seating area, you are guaranteed to get amazing photos of you showing your horse!

Let’s talk about photos! The Springfield horse show is also a great place to book a sessi portraits done of you and your horse. The beautiful architecture leads to some perfect photos. This venue is also set up for stunning black black background portraits of your horses. It’s an equestrian and photographer’s dream spot!
